Solar Buying Guide

Going solar can dramatically cut your electricity bill. This guide helps you size a system, choose components and pick a trustworthy installer.

1. Size your system

Use the Solar Payback calculator with your monthly bill to estimate the right system size (kW) and how fast it pays for itself.

2. Understand the components

Panels, an inverter (grid-tie, hybrid or off-grid) and optionally batteries. Lithium (LiFePO4) batteries last longer than lead-acid.

3. Net metering

For grid-tie systems, check CEB/LECO net-metering approval — it lets you export surplus power and offset your bill.

4. Choose a verified vendor

Request quotes from multiple verified solar vendors and compare price, brands, warranty and reviews side by side.

5. Check warranties

Confirm panel, inverter and battery warranties and that the installer is certified for the work.
